To ensure end-to-end quality and reduce transportation and supply chain handling costs, Walmart has established the Supplier Quality Excellence Program (SQEP). This program requires a high level of accuracy in packaging details, load quality metrics, and purchase order (PO) details, and suppliers may face fines for each PO infraction.

Established in March 2022, the guidelines for appropriate packaging, pellet, and load quality to minimize breakage and logistics disruption. Suppliers must meet these standards to participate in the program.

To evaluate suppliers' ability to meet their shipping performance requirements, Walmart uses compliance ratings as part of its On-Time, In-Full (OTIF) initiative. Suppliers must deliver OTIF orders in at least 95% of cases, and in August 2017, Walmart required suppliers with a rating of 36% or higher to improve by 20%.
Suppliers must be able to consistently meet Walmart's standards or risk receiving poor ratings and penalties for non-compliance. These may include fines for failure to comply, such as a 3% fine for early, incomplete, or late orders.
Walmart has implemented supply chain consolidation measures to optimize the transportation of shipments and meet the expectations of its customers and efficiency standards. The Walmart Vendor Pool Program has been created to handle full truckloads and smaller loads throughout the supply chain.
